Guided Tour: The Flagey district

image - Guided Tour: The Flagey district

A propos

Located at the junction of the Maelbeek valley and Chaussée d’Ixelles, Place Flagey was built on the site of a drained pond. Whereas the Maelbeek, a stream that today runs through an underground culvert, sometimes make its presence felt by flooding in periods of heavy rain, the names of the streets remind us of the presence of many breweries in what was the heart of the village of Ixelles. The square that we see today was laid out in the 1930s around the “Ocean Liner”, the iconic building designed by Joseph Diongre to house the National Radio Broadcasting Institute. It provides a link between urban worlds that are as different as they are interesting. This guided walking tour takes you through a district of the city unlike any other.
