Musa, 2020, 14’ 08'' Learning from the white birds, 2021, 5’ 58'' The Length of my gaze at night, 2021, 7’ 37'' Blue Spelling, 2016, 2’ 22'' In this selection of films, Minia Biabiany transposes the gesture of weaving to the practice of filmmaking, with poetic and symbolic layers moving alongside a political approach to the remembrance of colonial history in the Caribbean. The artist ties together images, voice and written language in the form of a poetic recollection intersecting timelines, landscapes, trauma and healing. Along the way, we encounter plants capable of healing and intoxicating, we delve into matriarchal, human and other-than-human kinships; we listen to the rhythm of silent images and find refuge in the shared space of these multilinear stories. BIO Minia Biabiany (b.1988, Guadeloupe) lives and works in Mexico and Guadeloupe. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France, Biabiany has exhibited widely. Her work investigates the perception of space, the paradigms of weaving and the concept of opacity in storytelling and language. In her practice, she deconstructs narratives related to the Caribbean’s colonial heritage in poetical mix media installations. She also initiated the artistic and pedagogical collective project Semillero Caribe in 2016. https://www.miniabiabiany.com/
