A propos
“Let it all go!” yells the DJ into the mic. A haze of kid-sweat fills the smallest nightclub in the country. Hoarse little voices cheer to the beat. “No parents allowed!” says the bouncer at the door. “This club is for kids only.” Adults simply don’t fit, with their oversized bodies and all. The pounding beats are blasting outside. The roof is coming off. The tiny ravers break free from parental control at their very first rave.
Welcome to BONKERS Kid’s Rave, a club for partygoers aged 5 to 11, run by Nikolas Lestaeghe, Jonathan Cant and Casimir Franken. Belgian eurodance, gabber, and techno fill the air, smoke machines on overdrive. While stunned adults watch from the sidelines, this theatrical experience invites kids to go all in. Age-appropriate DJ sets and interactive elements help young ravers find their groove and claim their freedom, and then take the grownups along for the ride.
To the cinema, for example, where a day of films awaits, suitable for (almost?) all ages. In times of endless visual content, where do we draw the line between film and kids’ film? A curated selection of audiovisual gems might offer the beginning of an answer by inviting everyone to view them with their full attention. Parents welcome too!
